Montepulciano Grapes

Cheese and Wine Tasting Holidays

Montipulciano grapes (the 4th most commonly grown in Italy) are grown extensively in Abruzzo, the product of which provides some of the most enjoyable red wines that Italy has to offer. The grape thrives on the fertile hills and mountains of Abruzzo where the soil is predominantly calcareous, created from debris of glaciers.

‘Montipulciano D’Abruzzo’ is perhaps the most well known wine from this region and by law, only the wines produced in Abruzzo can display this title on the label.

Abruzzo is also famous for Pecorino, a high quality white wine with 13% alcohol content, which is produced in historical vineyards.

Here at Agriturismo Montupoli we are proud to be associated with the regional wine industry and produce an annual crop of Montipulciano grapes, which we sell to the local Cantina.

Abruzzo is also famous for its cheeses, which provide the perfect compliment when tasted with a full glass of Montipulciano D’Abruzzo and Pecorino. Many varieties of cheese are produced in the region including Cacio Di Vacca Bianca, Pecorino, Caprino Abruzzese,  Guincata, Capruzzo, Scaomorza, Mozzarella, Burelle and Manteche.

If you are looking for a gastronomic experience then why not try our cheese and wine tasting holidays, which we run throughout the year. During your stay with us, you will be able to sample a variety of locally produced wines and cheeses and visit our local Cantina to discover more about wine production.
